Kawtar Azzouzi is first generation Moroccan artist living in Chicago. She graduated in 2015 from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago with a BFA and was awarded the Goldman Sachs scholarship for an experimental film about a murder in her hometown. Her illustrations involve themes of death, lust murder, human taboos, and heartbreak. Attempting to unearth what lies behind our western culture’s obsession with death, she often filters her exploration’s through a satirical lens in hopes of making the subject more accessible. Her upcoming debut graphic novel, entitled “Spiritual Teens” explores the romanticization of death and faux spirituality. Kawtar also works as the Studio Assistant at Bigmouth Press & Comix.
